Struggling puppeteer Craig Schwartz (John Cusack) takes a job as a file clerk and stumbles upon a portal hidden behind a file cabinet that allows anyone who enters to inhabit the body of John Malkovich (John Malkovich) for 15 minutes. Schwartz shares this knowledge with his co-worker Maxine Lund (Catherine Keener), who he is interested in; Lund is more interested in Schwartz pet store owning wife Lotte (Cameron Diaz) and in monetizing the bizarre discovery, but there are others interested in it for more sinister reasons...![]()
